I recently decided that it was time to build a slab table with a live edge. A friend was in need of a work station for a recent start-up business. He commissioned a desk and gave me complete freedom to design it, with the only stipulation that it be custom suited to his 6’3″ frame. I purchased the slab from Goodman Logging, in Everson WA, a local wholesaler who I have used many times in the past. The slab had already dried for many months in outdoors condition, protected from the rain. I then stored it for close to a year in my workshop, I flattened the slab with a #5 fore plane by hand for the quickest results. Here is a front view of the desk:
